A timely pitching performance by precocious Kevin Abel and a five-run third-inning explosion puts Oregon State in the College World Series championship series as the Beavers beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 5-2 Saturday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.

Oregon State (53-11-1) returns to the championship series for the first time since 2007, when the Beavers won the second of back-to-back national titles.

The Oregon State Beavers knocked off Mississippi State 5-2 Saturday in TD Ameritrade Park to complete a climb through the loser's bracket to the College World Series Finals.

Adley Rutschman and Michael Gretler had two hits each for the Beavers. Abel, a freshman, allowed just three hits over seven innings. Jake Mulholland closed out the final two innings, though it got tense in the end, as Mississippi State loaded the bases in the ninth inning.

Oregon State scored its runs in the third inning, all with two out. Tyler Malone had the big blow with a three-run homer.
